Russell Has A Blonde Moment

Local Sprintcar driver Wayne Russell intends to try something different during the second half of the current racing season.

After the Australian Championship is decided at Perth Motorplex next February, Russell will bring leading American driver Chad Blonde out to drive his car.

“When Chad was here last season I was able to get some driver coaching from him,” said Russell. “The American drivers race many more times than we do during a season so they have lots of experience.

“Naturally I want to learn more from Chad this time and having him here will also lift the profile of our team.”

Russell has ordered two brand new J&J chassis from the US for his upcoming campaign.

He is undecided whether he will continue driving when Blonde arrives, or concentrate on having a one-car team.

Russell experienced some problems with his no.35 car in the early part of this season.

“We had some problems with the magneto, which was pretty frustrating,” he continued.

“However I was able to run wheel to wheel with Max (Dumesny) and Brooke (Tatnell) in the World Series rounds at Kwinana, which made me pretty happy.”

Russell will concentrate on the AHG Sprintcar Series rounds at Perth Motorplex leading up to the Australian title, then travel to the other venues with Chad Blonde after that.
